What drew you to Oregon State?

I was drawn to Oregon State because of the beautiful campus, supportive environment and strong gymnastics team. From the first moment I stepped on campus, I immediately knew this place was going to become my home and was a place I could continue to grow as a person and athlete.

Who inspired you as a child and helped set you on your current path?

My parents. My dad has been my coach since I was a little girl and always encouraged me to work hard and trust the process. My parents always reminded me to have fun with gymnastics.

What makes you passionate about higher education?

Higher education gives people the opportunity to grow in areas they want to be involved in for the rest of their lives and learn new perspectives. I have always been passionate about continuing to learn and challenging myself.

What does it mean to you to be speaking to OSU’s Class of 2026 and what is your main message?

I am incredibly honored to have this opportunity to speak to OSU’s class of 2026. It is especially meaningful because I am graduating alongside them. I know how much OSU has meant to me and I am grateful to be able to represent a class that has worked so hard to get to this moment. My main message to the class of 2026 is to trust your own path. Not everyone’s journey will look the same and you should embrace yours and be proud of it.

What advice would you give the younger version of yourself who was just starting college?

I would tell myself to really take in and enjoy every moment. Not everything has to be figured out right away. I would also say to not be afraid to ask questions and build friendships.

What skills from being an Olympian benefited you as a college student?

I think being an Olympian taught me resilience and staying focused under pressure. These skills helped me a lot as a college student and athlete.

Was there a faculty or staff member at OSU who stood out during your college career?

I had so many incredible people here at OSU that supported me throughout my career. One person who really stands out to me is our head coach of the gymnastics team, Tanya Chaplin. She went above and beyond for me to be able to chase my dreams and stuck by my side every step of the way. She taught me how to believe in myself even when no one else did and encouraged me to never give up on my dreams. I will forever be grateful for her and our entire gymnastics staff.

What was your favorite course in college?

My favorite course in college was NMC (New Media Communications) 241 Applied Media Aesthetics. I loved getting to explore my creativity in this class and applying the skills I learned to my daily life.

What are you most excited about for your future at OSU?

I am excited about continuing to represent Oregon State wherever life takes me, whether that is through gymnastics and/ or exploring new opportunities outside of gymnastics. I am forever grateful that I got to be a part of such a special place.

What is your favorite non-academic pursuit or passion?

One of my biggest passions outside of academics is supporting and helping grow women's sports. I love being a part of a time where female athletes are getting more visibility and opportunities. I hope to inspire the next generation of female athletes.
