CORVALLIS - The Women's Center at Oregon State University will honor four Oregon residents with its 1996 Women of Achievement Awards during a reception this Wednesday (April 17).

The recipients are Jude Hanzo, executive director of the All Women's Health Services in Portland; Vietta Helmle, executive director of the Mid-Valley Women's Crisis Service, Salem; Leilani Roberts, senior instructor in the Department of Philosophy at OSU; and Stephanie Sanford, director of Affirmative Action at OSU.

Criteria for selection includes commitment to equality and furthering the status of women; honor and valor; and excellence in work that is not widely recognized, yet has potential for creating real change.

The 1996 recipients have diverse qualifications and experience, noted Judith Hadley, chair of the awards committee.

"Their contributions illustrate the broad scope of women's involvement in Oregon's public sector and inspire us to excellence in our own work," Hadley said.

A public reception will be held at the Women's Center on April 17 from noon to 2 p.m. The center is located just south of Benton Hall on the OSU campus.
