CORVALLIS - Oregon State University was one of three Oregon colleges and universities among the top 400 private recipients in the nation during the 1995 fiscal year, according to The Chronicle of Philanthropy.

This is the sixth year the list has been tabulated and OSU has made the list every year.

OSU topped the list from Oregon, ranking No. 198 overall, with donations to the OSU Foundation totaling more than $35.5 million. The University of Oregon was ranked 295th with receipts totaling $22.8 million, followed by the Oregon Health Sciences University, 238th, with receipts totaling $28.7 million.

There were 138 colleges and universities on the list and all 10 Pacific-10 Conference schools were ranked.

The Salvation Army topped the publication's list for the fourth year in a row, with receipts totaling more than $644 million.

One other Oregon charity was in the top 400. United Way of the Columbia-Willamette was ranked 369th, with over $18 million.

The OSU Foundation was founded in 1947 to aid and promote excellence in the education, research, and charitable activities at OSU. The foundation receives and administers private gifts for the benefit of the university.
