CORVALLIS  Fred Stormshak, a professor in the Department of Animal Science at Oregon State University, has been elected president of the Society for the Study of Reproduction. He will assume the presidency next year.

"The Society for the Study of Reproduction is among the foremost organizations in the world dedicated to the study of human and animal biology," said James Fitzgerald, head of OSU's Department of Animal Sciences. "The society publishes 'Biology of Reproduction,' the top journal on reproductive science and research."

The society was founded in 1967 to promote the study of reproduction by fostering interdisciplinary communication among scientists, holding conferences and publishing meritorious studies. It is comprised of basic scientists, medical and veterinary physicians, trainees in graduate and professional schools, and others engaged in research, education, and training relative to reproductive biology.

Stormshak joined the OSU Department of Animal Sciences as an assistant professor of physiology in 1968. He is known for his research on various aspects of uterine and ovarian function in domestic animals.
