CORVALLIS - Five Oregon women will be honored with 1997 Women of Achievement Awards at an April 25 reception at Oregon State University.

Recipients are GayLynn Pack, executive director of the Corvallis-based Center Against Rape and Domestic Violence; Beth Strohmeyer, OSU Memorial Union assistant director for educational activities; Marianne Vydra, assistant coordinator of OSU Student Athletic Services; Susan Stafford, OSU professor of forest sciences; and Judy Fortmiller, director of OSU's Music Learning Center.

Honorees were announced by the OSU Women's Center and the Women's Center Advisory Board Subcommittee for Women of Achievement. The awards are based on devotion to equality and furthering the status of women, and for excellence in work not widely recognized, yet with potential for creating change.

A public reception will be held at the Women's Center on April 25 from noon to 2 p.m. The center is located south of Benton Hall on the OSU campus.

Pack was a founder of the Family Violence Council in Benton County, is on the board of directors for ABC and Hope Houses and is a member of the Women's Rights Coalition.

Strohmeyer is on OSU's President's Commission on the Status of Women, the Faculty Women's Network and the OSU Sexual Assault Prevention Task Force.

Vydra has served on the President's Commission on the Status of Women, the Women's Center Advisory Board and organized the "Breaking Down Walls Symposium," which focused on gays and lesbians in academia.

Stafford has served as faculty associate in development of OSU policies on dual career couples and is an advocate for funding of women and minorities in science.

Fortmiller has edited the Corvallis National Organization for Women newsletter for more than 10 years and served as Corvallis NOW president, secretary, treasurer and representative to the Oregon NOW board.

Also recognized were nominees Robyn Sharp and Marcia Ridpath of OSU Department of Intercollegiate Athletics; Judith Li, OSU Department of Fisheries and Wildlife; and Kathleen Heath, OSU associate dean emeritus of exercise and sport science.
