CORVALLIS - Ron Stewart, an alumnus of Oregon State University, has been appointed to a senior position in the USDA Forest Service as deputy chief for programs and legislation.

Stewart received his bachelor's degree in forest management from the OSU College of Forestry in 1964, and a doctorate in forest ecology and silviculture in 1970. He has been employed in various positions with the U.S. Forest Service since 1969.

The new position for Stewart was announced by Mike Dombeck, chief of the U.S. Forest Service. He cited Stewart and several other new appointees as the "cream of the crop when it comes to natural resource management - highly respected by their peers and beyond repute professionally."
