CORVALLIS - Women's History Month will be highlighted this March at Oregon State University with lectures, informal discussions and films.

Most events will be in OSU's Women's Center and are free and open to the public. For information, contact the center at 541-737-3186.

Activities begin at noon on Monday, March 3, in the Women's Center as OSU student Luciana Martins shares stories and slides of her native Brazil.

OSU's first feminist anthology, "Soulstice," will be the focus of a reception on Friday, March 7, at 5 p.m. that will feature readings by contributors to the publication. The anthology debuted last year.

Other events include a March 11 discussion of contemporary women's spirituality and a March 12 discussion of the history of women healers.

Monday, March 3

Noon: Luciana Martins, OSU international student from Brazil will discuss the role of women in her homeland. OSU Women's Center.

2 p.m.: "Female Tourists in 19th Century United States," presented by Bess Beatty, OSU associate professor of history. Women's Center.

3 p.m.: "Oppression of Women's Bodies, Past and Present," presented by Mariette Brouwers, a counselor with OSU Counseling and Psychological Services. Women's Center.

Tuesday, March 4

10 a.m. - 3 p.m.: Women's Center booth in the Memorial Union Student Lounge to raise awareness of support programs and current issues.

12:30 p.m.: Screening of film "Black is, Black Ain't." Women's Center.

4 p.m.: Women's Support Group, Women's Center

Wednesday, March 5

10 a.m. - 3 p.m.: Women's Center booth, Memorial Union Student Lounge, to raise awareness of support programs and current issues.

Noon: "Women in Forestry," OSU international student Paula Gancho will contrast women's opportunities in Portugal to the U.S. Women's Center.

3 p.m.: Barbara Daniels, of the U.S. Forest Service, will speak on forestry issues and women. Women's Center.

Thursday, March 6

10 a.m. - 3 p.m.: Women's Center booth, Memorial Union Student Lounge, to raise awareness of support programs and current issues.

12:30 p.m.: "Life in the Republic of Georgia," presented by Victoria Shurgaia, OSU international student, Women's Center.

Friday, March 7

Noon: Movie and discussion, "Gender Issues in the U.S." Women's Center.

2 p.m.: "Banishment of the Goddess," a talk on the rise of the patriarchy by Judy Ringle, OSU doctoral candidate in home economics and education.

5 p.m.: A reception and reading of "Soulstice," OSU's first feminist anthology, Women's Center.

Monday, March 10

Noon: Screening of "Silent Spring," based on Rachel Carson's writings warning of the dangers of pesticides in the environment. Women's Center.

Tuesday, March 11

12:30 p.m.: "Contemporary Women's Spirituality," presented by Susan Shaw, OSU instructor in women studies. Women's Center.

4 p.m.: Women's Support Group, Women's Center.

Wednesday, March 12

Noon: "History of Women Healers," presented by Ann Snyder, OSU master's candidate. Women's Center.

Thursday, March 13

11 a.m.: "Life in Nigeria," OSU international student Nwamaka Anadu will discuss women's roles in her homeland.

12:30 p.m.: "Celebrate Women through Music," a guitar presentation by Mina Carson, OSU associate professor of history. Women's Center.

Friday, March 14

Noon: Sunil Khanna, OSU assistant professor of anthropology, will discuss women's issues in India and South Asia. Women's Center.
