CORVALLIS - Kenneth W. Hedberg, a professor emeritus of chemistry at Oregon State University, has been elected a member of the Royal Norwegian Society of Sciences and Letters.

Election to this professional organization, which dates back to a royal decree in 1767, is one of the highest scientific honors in Norway and made only to scholars who are international leaders in their fields of study.

Hedberg is a physical chemist who studies the structure of molecules. He has received numerous other awards and honors during his career and has collaborated extensively with researchers in Norway.

Hedberg received his doctorate in chemistry and physics from the California Institute of Technology in 1948.
