CORVALLIS - An Oregon State University dean has been honored with the Distinguished Alumnus Award by California State University, Fresno.

Timothy White, dean of the College of Health and Human Performance at OSU, was honored over Memorial Day Weekend during Fresno State's annual commencement ceremony.

White received his bachelor's degree there in 1970.

An exercise physiologist, White focused his research on muscle plasticity and aging. Prior to his appointment as dean of the OSU college in 1996, he was professor and chair of the Department of Human Biodynamics at the University of California for five years.

He also held a variety of appointments at the University of Michigan from 1978-91.

White is a former president of the American College of Sports Medicine.
