CORVALLIS - The annual conference of the Northwest Center for Small Fruits Research will be held Dec. 2-3 at Cavanaugh's At Columbia Center, N. 1101 Columbia Center Blvd., Kennewick, Wash.

U.S. Rep. George Nethercutt, a Republican from Washington's Fifth District, will give the conference's keynote address at a Dec. 2 luncheon. Nethercutt is a member of the House Appropriations Committee and the House Agriculture Subcommittee.

Registration will begin at 8 a.m. on Dec. 2. Morning sessions on pest management, berry and grape processing, and genetics will begin at 10:15 a.m. Afternoon sessions on wine and production physiology will begin at 2 p.m.

A wine reception and social hour will begin at 6 p.m. Dec. 2 at nearby Columbia Crest Winery. The winery will also be open for tours.

A liaison committee breakfast meeting is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 3, and an advisory council meeting will follow at 8:30 a.m.

The conference registration fee of $70 will cover all sessions, including the lunch, the Tuesday evening reception, the Columbia Crest Winery tour and shuttle, and a copy of the 1997 conference proceedings. There is a student registration fee of $25.

The Northwest Center for Small Fruits Research is a consortium of the Oregon State University, Washington State University and University of Idaho Agricultural Experiment Stations, the U.S. Department of Agriculture Agricultural Research Service, and t he small fruits industry.
