CORVALLIS - An Oregon State University art professor has been honored for his achievements in helping to advance art education in Oregon.

John Maul, an associate professor of art and director of OSU's Jumpstart program, will receive the Award for Outstanding Contribution to Art Education for the region from the Oregon Art Education Association. It will be presented to him in a ceremony Oct. 10.

Jumpstart is a popular pre-college art program offered at OSU every summer that attracts students from all over the Northwest. It has been credited with filling the gap in art education created by cutbacks in public school funding and inspiring students to pursue advanced studies in drawing, printing, photography, sculpture, design, and many other fields.
