CORVALLIS - James White, a distinguished professor of chemistry at Oregon State University, has been awarded a Centenary Lectureship for 1999 by the Royal Society of Chemistry in the United Kingdom.

This prestigious lectureship, commemorating the centennial of that professional organization, will include a lecture tour of several United Kingdom universities and research institutes.

White, an organic chemist, is an expert in the synthesis of antibiotics and other agents of potential value in medicine. He received his doctorate from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1965 and has been on the OSU faculty since 1971.
