CORVALLIS - Oregon State University will celebrate Cinco de Mayo on Saturday, May 2, with music, food and dance.

Tickets are $8. For information, contact OSU Student Involvement at 541-737-6342.

The celebration begins at 6:30 p.m. in the OSU Memorial Union Ballroom with a Cinco de Mayo Feast. There will also be performances by the OSU student dance performance group Baila Con Mexico (Dance with Mexico).

Cinco de Mayo commemorates the victory of outnumbered Mexican forces over a powerful French invading army in 1862. About 4,000 Mexican soldiers smashed the French army of 8,000 at Puebla, Mexico, 100 miles east of Mexico City on the morning of May 5. Historians say the victory was a critical step in Mexico's independence and nationhood.
