CORVALLIS - Mark McCambridge has been named assistant vice president for business affairs at Oregon State University and will help oversee the newly merged offices of Business Services and Business Affairs.
McCambridge, who was director of Business Services, served as interim vice president for finance and administration at Oregon State during much of the 1997-98 academic year. Robert Specter, a former finance administrator at Montana State University, was named vice president and began his duties at OSU in October.
As assistant vice president, McCambridge will assist Specter in setting policy and working with supervisors on day-to-day activities for the units within the newly merged division, which will be called Business Affairs. Those units include accounting, payroll, travel, contracts, motor pool, printing and mailing services, property management, and other functions.
Specter said the appointment of McCambridge is particularly important and timely because of "pressing issues facing OSU and public higher education in Oregon."
"Implementation of the new funding model for higher education and a critical legislative session makes it imperative that we have strong, experienced leadership in Business Affairs to help the university confront the challenges that will arise," Specter said.
McCambridge has been at OSU since 1994. Before joining the administration, he was executive director of the Cal Poly Pomona Foundation.
"Mark played a key role in helping Oregon State University set a new direction for fiscal management and accountability, and I am pleased that he will continue to provide leadership and experience in these important areas," said OSU President Paul Risser.
Specter said the university also will launch a search in January for an associate director of Business Affairs to fill a vacant position. No new FTE are being added during the restructuring.
