CORVALLIS - Identifying hazardous traffic elements and establishing and evaluating highway safety projects are among the topics of a two-day workshop Feb. 17-18, sponsored by Oregon State University's Transportation Research Institute.

The Safety Management System course is for safety analysts, engineers, technicians and enforcement and maintenance supervisors responsible for roads and streets.

Advance registration is required and tuition is $155. The course will be held at OSU's LaSells Stewart Center. Cost of the program includes a first-day continental breakfast and two lunches. For information, contact the institute at 541-737-4273.

Other topics in the program include: collecting and maintaining data; analysis using the Oregon Department of Transportation's accident database; local highway economic analysis and case studies.

The course is part of the Transportation Research Institute's traffic engineering and safety short course series. The institute was established in 1962 and conducts research as well as serves as a central clearinghouse of transportation-related information.
