CORVALLIS - Four Oregon State University faculty members have received Fulbright scholar grants to study, teach or conduct research abroad during the 1997-98
academic year.

They are: Richard Clinton, a professor of political science; Robert Lawrence, an associate professor of geosciences; Craig Machado, an instructor in OSU's English Language Institute; and Ronald Miner, a professor of bioresource engineering and a specialist in the OSU Extension Service.

Clinton already has completed his stint. He spent nearly four months in Lima, Peru, late last year lecturing and conducting research on population and development in that country.

Lawrence is at the University of Peshawar in Pakistan, where he will remain until May of 1998. During his nine-month stay, he will conduct geologic research looking at a cross-section of the Himalayan mountains in Pakistan.

Machado also has begun his Fulbright studies. He is at Masaryk University in Brno of the Czech Republic, where he will lecture on the topic, English as a second language. Machado left in September and will return in June.

Miner leaves this month for the University of Malawi in Lilongwe, where he will spend 11 months lecturing and conducting research on agricultural engineering.

The Fulbright program is administered by the U.S. Information Agency, with funding support provided by participating governments and host institutions.
