CORVALLIS - Jim Edmondson, who played the title role of King Lear at the Oregon Shakespearean Festival in Ashland in 1997, will visit the Oregon State University campus Jan. 15-16 as part of the University Theatre's Shakespearean season.

A well-known Shakespearean actor and director, Edmondson will teach an acting workshop on Shakespeare Thursday and Friday from 3-5 p.m. in the lab theater of Withycombe Hall. The workshop is open to the public on a space-available basis; for more information, call 503-737-2853.

Edmondson will also give a free public lecture on Friday, Jan. 16, where he will discuss his experiences acting and directing Shakespeare. In addition to his portrayal of King Lear, he directed "Rough Crossing" last year. Next year he will direct Shakespeare's "Cymbeline."

His lecture is part of a theater arts class, but it is open to the public. It begins at noon in the Withycombe Hall lab theater.

Edmondson's OSU visit is sponsored by University Theatre at OSU, which will present Shakespeare's "Titus Andronicus" Jan. 29-31 and Feb. 5-7.
