CORVALLIS - Tom West, a professor of engineering at Oregon State University, has been elected one of 23 new fellows for 1998 in the Society of Manufacturing Engineers.

There are only 200 fellows in this professional organization of 65,000 engineers, and the honor recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the social, technological and educational aspects of manufacturing engineering.

West, who has recently served as interim dean of the College of Engineering, is an expert in engineering economic analysis, intermodal transportation systems and integrated manufacturing systems. He received his doctorate in industrial engineering from OSU in 1976 and has been on the OSU faculty since that time.
