CORVALLIS - Anna K. Harding, an Oregon State University faculty member since 1990 and an expert in environmental health, has been named chair of the Department of Public Health at OSU. She succeeds Rebecca Donatelle, who has returned to full-time teaching and research in the department.

The appointment was made by Timothy White, dean of the College of Health and Human Performance at OSU.

Harding has conducted research on water quality, public health issues surrounding chemical contamination, and community involvement in health-related issues. Since January, she has been a visiting scientist at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in Richland, Wash., working with the Environmental Policy and Risk Management Group.

An associate professor of public health, she is coordinator of OSU's Environmental Health and Safety Program.

Harding has a bachelor's degree in community health and health education from the University of Oregon, and a Ph.D. in public health from OSU. She also conducted research at Avinashilingam Home Science University in India in 1988-89.
