CORVALLIS - Evie Moe of Albany has been selected as the 1998 recipient of the $6,000 Leo G. Spitzbart Memorial Scholarship for her work in 4-H and participation in the Oregon State Fair.

The Spitzbart scholarship honors the late Leo Spitzbart, manager of the Oregon State Fair from 1935 to 1957, according to Duane Johnson, Oregon State University Extension 4-H youth development specialist. The award is given to an outstanding 4-H member who has participated in State Fair and who plans to attend OSU.

Moe, daughter of Charles and Linda Moe, is a senior at Santiam Christian School and has been a 4-H member since 1990. She was in charge of the 4-H fashion review at the State Fair, a responsibility that included fund raising, recruiting volunteers, registering 200 contestants from throughout the state and organizing the program.

Among her many community service activities, Moe prepared and delivered meals to senior citizens and sewed baby clothes for a community outreach program.

In addition to her involvement with 4-H sewing and fashion activities, Moe has been a junior and teen 4-H leader and a participant in OSU's 4-H Summer Days. She has served as a 4-H Ambassador since 1996 and attended the National 4-H Congress in Memphis, Tenn., in 1996.

Moe carries a 4.0 grade point average at Santiam Christian School, where she is class president and ranks first in her senior class. Moe plans to study apparel design at OSU.
