CORVALLIS - Campus recycling experts from across the nation will arrive at Oregon State University on April 2 for the College and University Recycling Conference sponsored by the National Recycling Coalition.

Conference sessions will cover everything from establishing basic recycling programs to creating markets for recycled goods, said Ben Nelson, of OSU Campus Recycling and conference chair. For conference information, contact the National Recycling Coalition in Alexandria, Va., at 703-683-9025.

While the conference is aimed at college recycling, sessions offer solutions that can be applied in a variety of other recycling efforts. Specialized sessions will hit a dozen topics, including composting food and landscape debris, how to involve the community in recycling efforts, building "green" by using sustainable techniques in new construction and measuring effectiveness of recycling programs.

Campus recycling effort at OSU began as a student-driven effort in 1974 and now reaches every sector of the university, from research laboratories to the campus gardens. A recent campus waste audit shows that OSU students, staff and faculty recycle 48 percent of waste generated on campus.

Support for the conference comes from more than 15 organizations and individuals, including Boise Cascade Office Products, Busch Systems, Resource Recycling Magazine, Steel Recycling Institute, Rainbow Eco Specialities, Washington State Recycling Association and American Forest and Paper Association.
