WOODBURN - Businesses that plan for long-term success usually plan for succession as well.

Succession - when a business makes the transition from one generation to the next - may be the most challenging issue that family business owners face, according to Patricia Frishkoff, director of Oregon State University's Austin Family Business Program.

To promote business success, the Austin Family Business Program, with sponsorship by U.S. Bank, will hold a succession workshop in Woodburn for family business owners.

The four-hour workshop starts at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, March 18, at United Disposal Service, 2215 N. Front St. A working lunch and tour of United Disposal begins at noon. The workshop will also be offered in Beaverton on April 22.

Topics will include strategies for succession survival and effective trusts. A panel of family business owners will also discuss what they learned during succession.

The Austin Family Business Program, which began in 1985, provides hands-on learning to help business owners manage day-to-day operations and plan for future generations.
