CORVALLIS - A play developed and written during a course at Oregon State University last year has just received an honor for the student who wrote it.

Lee Rianda's original play, "All Things Being Equal," was selected as one of the best one-act plays in the country by the American College Theatre Festival. It also received a citation as the best play written in the Northwest region by the festival.

The play will be published by Dramatic Publishing and will be available for productions beginning this fall.

Rianda is a graduate student at OSU working with the University Theatre program. She said her play is about a writer "who has a life-changing, soul-searching conversation with her boss, whom she has just killed."

"The play was developed and written in Prof. Harry MacCormack's play writing class last year, which helped me to actually stick with it from beginning to end," Rianda said. "I've written some other plays, some of which were produced when I lived in California, but this is, I guess, my first 'mature' piece."

Students from the University Theatre put on Rianda's play last year, and the original OSU cast and the OSU Lab Theatre will be listed in its publishing, according to Charlotte Headrick of the University Theatre.
