CORVALLIS - An exhibit of 50 prints from different artists representing every state in the country will open Nov. 9 at Oregon State University.

Called "Colorprint USA," the exhibit is designed to open in galleries and museums simultaneously in all 50 states. The OSU exhibit will be on display in Fairbanks Gallery, located in Fairbanks Hall on the corner of 26th Street and Jefferson.

Oregon State was selected to represent the state of Oregon by hosting the event, and with a print from OSU faculty member Yuji Hiratsuka.

The selected printmakers from the various states submitted a limited edition of their print to Texas Tech University, which assembled 50 portfolios. The prints cover a wide range of motifs, themes and images, said Douglas Russell, gallery director.

"Landscapes are included and record awesome forms, cycles and colors," he said. "Images of suburbanization provide a balance to the landscapes. There are also abstract prints which run the gamut from spiritual and sublime beauty to decorative impulse, of allusive patterns to raucous textures."

Russell will present a gallery talk on Wednesday, Nov. 18, at 7:15 p.m. on the exhibit. His talk will be repeated on Nov. 19 at 12:30 p.m. Both will be in Fairbanks Gallery.

Admission to the gallery is free. Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.

The exhibit will be on display through Dec. 3.
