CORVALLIS - An exhibit of photographs featuring Oregon's designated wild and scenic rivers, published in a 1997 book called, "Oregon Rivers," is on display at Oregon State University's Giustina Gallery.

A reception and book signing for writer John Daniel and photographer Larry Olsen will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 3, at the gallery, located in LaSells Stewart Center, 26th Street and Western Boulevard in Corvallis.

Admission to the gallery and reception is free and open to the public.

In 1988, motivated by Oregon's landmark river legislation, Olsen began taking photographs of Oregon rivers. Daniel wrote essays on the wild and scenic river system, and their combined effort, "Oregon Rivers," was published by Westcliffe Publishers last summer.

Olsen said he made repeated visits to all of the 56 designated wild and scenic rivers in Oregon, "hiking along (and often in) the rivers, roaming up and down the canyons and drainages surrounding them, seeking to capture on film the contours and facets of landscape that make up a river system."
