CORVALLIS - Michael Newton, a professor of forest science at Oregon State University, has received the Barrington Moore Memorial Award from the Society of American Foresters.

This award, which includes a plaque and $1,000 honorarium, recognizes outstanding achievement in biological research that aids the advancement of forestry. In a 30-year career, Newton has made key advances in silviculture, forest ecology and environmental chemistry, especially in vegetation management to aid regeneration of Pacific Northwest forests.

Newton received his doctorate from OSU in 1964 and has been on the OSU faculty since 1960.
