CORVALLIS - Clive Cook of Canby is one of 28 men and women who were recently honored as 1998 Diamond Pioneers by the Oregon State University College of Agricultural Sciences.

The Diamond Pioneer Registry began when the college celebrated its 75th anniversary in 1983 as a way of honoring outstanding achievements in agriculture and natural resources. It honors those 75 or older.

Cook retired from the OSU Extension Service at the end of 1973, ending 30 years of service as an OSU Extension agent. He served the entire time in Clackamas County except for nearly three years in Marion County.

While an Extension agent, Cook helped organize the Clackamas Seed Growers Association and was one of the leaders in the organization of the Willamette Valley Potato Growers Association. He received the distinguished service award from the National Association of County Agricultural Agents in 1971. His son, Gordon, is an Extension agent in Union County.
