CORVALLIS - The University Theatre at Oregon State University will present four major productions during the 1998-99 season, including a contemporary comedy with an edge, a masterpiece by Tennessee Williams, a stage adaptation of a beloved novel, and a classic American drama.

First up is "Five Women Wearing the Same Dress," a comedy about five bridesmaids at a Tennessee wedding who confront their differences and share their triumphs. Written by Alan Ball, the play is scheduled to run Nov. 12-14 and Nov. 19-21. It will be directed by Charlotte Headrick.

"Camino Real," a masterpiece by one of the acknowledged geniuses of modern drama, will run Jan. 28-30 and Feb. 4-6. The Tennessee Williams play is a journey through a magical, frightening world filled with characters from myth, literature and modern history. It will be directed by Marion O. Rossi Jr.

A stage adaptation of Louisa May Alcott's classic, "Little Women," will run April 1-3 and April 8-10. Based on one of the most revered American novels, it is a story of friendship, family, courage and love set in 19th century America. It will be directed by William Earl.

Rounding out the 1998-99 schedule will be "Inherit the Wind," the classic tale about the trial of Charles Darwin, his writings and the theory of evolution, set in small town America. Written by Jerome Lawrence and Robert Lee, "Inherit the Wind" will run May 20-22 and May 27-29. It will be directed by Lloyd Crisp, professor emeritus of speech communication.

OSU's University Theatre also just completed a revival of "Pirates of Penzance," which it performed this summer during the annual Gilbert and Sullivan Festival.

All of the plays will be performed in the Withycombe Hall Theatre at 30th Street and Campus Way in Corvallis.
