CORVALLIS - Two administrators in the College of Home Economics and Education at Oregon State University have been voted president-elect of major national organizations.

Kinsey B. Green, dean of the college, will be president-elect for the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences in 1999-2000. One of the oldest professional organizations in the United States, the 14,500-member association was formed to improve the quality and standards of individual and family life.

It is the only major national organization representing family and consumer science professionals spanning different specializations, including human development, family sciences, housing and environment, food and nutrition, family economics, textiles and apparel, and resource management relating to human health and productivity.

Green, who has been at OSU since 1984, is a nationally recognized expert on public policy, demographic trends, and economic factors affecting the home economics professional and not-for-profit organizations. She headed the association as CEO from 1975 to 1994 and is the first professional to hold both the chief elected and chief executive positions.

Sally Francis, professor and head of the OSU Department of Apparel, Interiors, Housing and Merchandising, will be president-elect of the International Textile and Apparel Association in 1999-2000.

The association encourages scholarship and education in the textiles, apparel and merchandising fields. Among the group's goals are to advocate research and scholarship, exchange ideas and knowledge, and disseminate that information through conferences, workshops and publications.

Francis, who has been at OSU since 1982, is a nationally recognized expert on consumer satisfaction with clothing, including the social-psychological aspects of clothing and clothing deprivation.

The OSU department offers undergraduate, master's and Ph.D. programs, with instruction in the areas of apparel design, production and retail; interior merchandising; housing studies, design and policy; and merchandising management.
