CORVALLIS - Oregon State University will host a "Kaleidoscope of Colleges and Cultures" on Saturday, Jan. 15, to give college-bound students of color a chance to experience the academic and cultural atmosphere of the OSU campus.

All activities are free to prospective students.

For details on the day-long event, including registration information and a schedule of activities, call the OSU Office of Admission and Orientation at 541-737-2626 or 1-800-291-4192, or write to 150 Kerr Administrative Services, Oregon State University, Corvallis, OR 97331. Many school counseling and agency offices also have information.

"It is a perfect opportunity for students who have not yet decided on what college to attend - or if they want to attend college - to learn about the programs we provide here at Oregon State University," said Louan Johnson, program coordinator for OSU Admission and Orientation.

Presentations will highlight the university's academic colleges and their diversity. Other sessions will include seminars focusing on financial aid, admission requirements and support services, as well as leadership and internship opportunities for students.

Some sessions will be conducted in Spanish.

"We'll be showing students we have programs suited to their needs and that we have a diverse climate here," Johnson said.

Panels featuring OSU student leaders will feature student perspectives of campus. OSU cultural organizations and events will be highlighted and there will be opportunities to learn from the experiences of OSU faculty and students of color.
