CORVALLIS - Two popular summer programs at Oregon State University for gifted, talented and creative learners in grades three to seven are now open for applications. The deadline is March 12.

Both programs will be held on Mondays through Fridays from June 21 to July 2. They are sponsored jointly by the OSU School of Education and OSU Summer Session and Precollege Programs.

The "Explorations" program is for students who have just completed grades three or four, and features half-day morning sessions. Such activities as drama, entomology, computers, foreign languages, astronomy, chess and creative writing will be featured.

The "Adventures in Learning" program is for students who have completed grades five through seven, and will meet in full-day sessions. Students may select three to five one or two-hour courses in which they are interested, with such offerings as archaeology, art, molecular biology, photography, rocketry, Shakespeare and forensic science. There will be more than 30 courses available with participation from OSU faculty members, public school educators and other area professionals.

"With each of these programs, we hope to enable young learners to stretch their minds as they explore and investigate topics about which they are curious and interested," said Judy Michael, director of the Adventures in Learning program. "Students can also anticipate new friendships and an exciting learning environment with their academic peers."
