CORVALLIS - Larry Roper, vice provost for student affairs at Oregon State University, has been named editor of the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators Journal.

The quarterly publication is the primary scholarly journal for senior student affairs officers at universities around the country. Roper will have a vital role in building on the journal as a publication for contemporary issues in student affairs administration and research and developing the journal as a valued reference for all administrators in higher education.

In a letter to Roper confirming his appointment, Doris Ching, president-elect of NASPA wrote: "You were identified by your NASPA colleagues as a professional who is most competent to lead NASPA's efforts in the transformation and development of this prestigious publication over the next biennium. Your knowledge and commitment to the association and the profession are highly regarded, and it was truly a privilege for me to recommend you to serve in this important and exciting role."

The three-year appointment will begin July 1, 1999, and end June 30, 2002.

"I was caught off-guard by the appointment," said Roper, who also serves on the editorial board of NASPA's on-line journal, Net Results. "It wasn't something I was looking for. They solicited me."

Roper joined OSU in July of 1995. He was previously vice president for student affairs and dean of students at St John Fisher College in Rochester, N.Y.
