CORVALLIS - Sally K. Francis, an Oregon State University faculty member and administrator since 1982, has been named interim dean of the Graduate School at OSU.

She replaces Tom Maresh, who recently retired.

Francis has been a professor and head of the Department of Apparel, Interiors, Housing and Merchandising in OSU's College of Home Economics and Education. She also has served the university in numerous leadership roles, including president of the OSU Faculty Senate in 1995.

She chaired the university's graduate council during 1990-91, and was a member of the council for three years.

As interim dean of the Graduate School, Francis will help guide the graduate programs of OSU's 11 colleges, which encompass more than 70 different disciplines. The university has nearly 3,000 graduate students, representing every state in the U.S. and 90 different countries.

Francis is a nationally recognized expert on consumer satisfaction with clothing, including the social-psychological aspects of clothing and clothing deprivation. She recently was voted president-elect of the International Textile and Apparel Association for 1999-2000.

Before coming to OSU in 1982, Francis was on the faculty of Miami University in Ohio.
