CORVALLIS - Air Force incentive scholarships will jump nearly 75 percent for college juniors and seniors this fall, from $2,000 to $3,450.

"It's a great opportunity for Oregon students," said Lt. Col. Antonino Fabiano, recruiter for the Air Force ROTC detachment at Oregon State University. "For example, here at OSU, 85 percent of the student's tuition and a majority of their books will be paid through this scholarship."

Through a special enrollment agreement, students from the University of Oregon, Western Oregon University, and several regional community colleges can also participate in Air Force ROTC activities at OSU and take advantage of the scholarship, he said. Students interested in the program can contact Fabiano at 541-737-3436 or, toll-free, at 800-633-7352.

The Professional Officer Course Incentive Scholarship is offered to students in all majors who have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.35 and meet other requirements such as age, physical fitness and medical standards.

Of the total annual scholarship offered, $3,000 is marked for tuition and $450 for books, Fabiano said. Added to the scholarship is a $150 monthly allowance that students receive while attending school.

The scholarship, combined with the allowance, adds up to a benefits package worth more than $5,000 per year.

"The cost of a college education (for selected students) just became 75 percent more affordable," Fabiano said.
