CORVALLIS - William Smart, the assistant director of the Office of Admission and Orientation at Oregon State University, is the first recipient of a new award which will also be named after him.

The Oregon chapter of NAFSA: Association of International Educators presented the first Smart Award in recognition of Smart's "extraordinary service to Oregon advisors and students." At OSU, Smart is also the international student and scholar advisor.

Smart received his doctorate from the University of Illinois in 1974 and has been on the OSU faculty since 1984.
