PRINEVILLE - Getting serious about growing and managing forages is the theme of the third annual eastern Oregon grazing conference scheduled for Nov.10-11 at the High Desert Events Center, Deschutes County Fairgrounds in Redmond.

The conference, sponsored by the Oregon State University Extension Service, is intended for all livestock producers interested in improving their forage production.

The featured speaker is Ben Bartlett, Michigan State University livestock and dairy specialist.

"Bartlett is a nationally recognized speaker on grazing management who has traveled throughout the world to study various types of forage and grazing systems," said Mylen Bohle, Oregon State University Extension Service agriculture agent in Crook County. Bohle and Gene Pirelli, OSU Extension Service livestock agent in Polk County, are co-organizers of the conference.

"The conference is designed to give producers a wealth of information on all aspects of animal and plant management," Bohle added.

Other speakers at the conference include, Ron Hathaway and Rod Todd, OSU Extension Service livestock and forage agents in Klamath County; David Hannaway, OSU Extension Service forage specialist; Dave Chamberlain, OSU Extension Service livestock agent in Harney County; and Randy Dovel, head of the Agricultural and Natural Resources Department at Klamath Community College.
