CORVALLIS - Oregon State University will host more than 1,200 high school journalists and their advisers this Wednesday, Oct. 27, during the 14th annual Fall Press Day at the university.

The students will spend much of the day at LaSells Stewart Center and the CH2M-HILL Alumni Center on campus, attending some of the 64 different sessions that will teach them about writing, editing, photography, ethics, dealing with controversy, interviewing and other topics.

Professional journalists throughout the state will teach the workshops.

Among the key presentations: John Marler, of KATU-TV, will host a Town Hall forum that will be broadcast later this fall. The two opening addresses will be presented by Lew Frederick, director of public information at Portland Public Schools and a former reporter with KGW-TV; and Jack Hart, an editor with the Oregonian, and a former journalism professor and writing coach.

Some 65 to 70 schools will be represented at Fall Press Day. The event is sponsored by the Northwest Scholastic Press at OSU, the university, and OSU Student Media.
