CORVALLIS - As part of its ongoing program on responsible drinking, Oregon State University will host an interactive, multi-media program called "Beer, Booze & Books" that will greet students when they return to campus.

The program is scheduled at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22, in OSU's Gill Coliseum. It is free and open to the public.

The event, featuring speaker Jim Matthews, is designed to create a culture that supports the "silent majority" of the community who abstain from drinking or drink at low-risk levels, said David J. Visiko, health educator at OSU Student Health Services.

Matthews' information about alcohol use will be enhanced by computer-generated graphics and video with audience participation. Topics include childhood introduction to alcohol, addiction and party.

In addition to Wednesday night's program, Matthews will do three additional programs on Thursday, Sept. 23, at OSU's Valley Football Center. For information, contact Visiko at 541-737-7555.
