CORVALLIS - Oregon State University's Department of Art has awarded 18 scholarships to students for the coming academic year, which begins Sept. 25.

The department offers bachelor's degrees in fine art, graphic design, photography and art history, and maintains The Fine Arts Collection, consisting of medieval illuminated manuscripts, European and Japanese prints, modern paintings, prints, mosaics, sculpture and crafts.

The following is a listing of scholarship awards made by the Department of Art for the coming academic year:

  • ALBANY: Jennifer Eagles, senior in graphic design, $500 Kelsi Force Memorial Award, established in memory of Force, an OSU student in graphic design from Forest Grove who died in 1997; Sonya Springstead, senior in fine arts and art history, $1,500 Sponenburgh Travel Grant, established in memory of Mark Sponenburgh, an OSU professor of art.

     

  • BEAVERTON: Matthew Bernardo, senior in graphic design, full tuition Helen E. Plinkiewisch Art Scholarship, in memory of Plinkiewisch, a 1929 graduate of OSU.

     

  • CORVALLIS: Brian Baker, senior in graphic design, 50 percent tuition Helen E. Plinkiewisch Art Scholarship, in memory of Plinkiewisch who graduated from OSU in 1929; Lorna Christensen, senior in fine arts, $1,000 Norma Seibert Print Scholarship, established in 1976 by Seibert, a former Corvallis resident; Lindsay Dluehosh, sophomore in fine arts, 50 percent tuition Helen E. Plinkiewisch Art Scholarship; Miranda Erickson, senior in fine arts, $300 Orzech Printmaking Award, established by retired OSU professors Mimi and Zeev Orzech; Meghan Street, senior in fine arts, $750 Fine Arts Award in Painting Scholarship, established in 1974 by Shepard and Gloria Levine.

     

  • DALLAS: Benjamin Buswell, senior in fine arts, $1,500 Wayne Takami Memorial Scholarship, established in 1973 to honor Takami, an OSU art student who died in his senior year.

     

  • EUGENE: Melanie Jahnke, freshman in fine arts, $1,000 Matsen-Davidson Awards, established in 1979 by Iva Matsen.

     

  • JOSEPH: Matthew McDonal, sophomore in fine arts, $1,000 Matsen-Davidson Awards, established in 1979 by Iva Matsen.

     

  • KEIZER: Dan Loretz, sophomore in fine arts, $300 Art Department Faculty Award.

     

  • LEBANON: Levi Hammett, sophomore in fine arts, $1,000 Matsen-Davidson Awards, established in 1979 by Iva Matsen.

     

  • PORTLAND: Sherry Holliday (97230), senior in graphic design, $1,500 Yaquina Art Association Scholarship; Michelle Shiveley (97266), senior in art, $750 Hollands Memorial Scholarship, established in 1962 by Harold Hollands, OSU professor, in memory of his wife, Rachel.

     

  • SALEM: Corwin Bolt, freshman in fine arts, 50 percent tuition Helen E. Plinkiewisch Art Scholarship in memory of Plinkiewisch who graduated from OSU in 1929.

     

  • ST. HELENS: Jeremy Kadolf, junior in graphic design, $300 American Dream Pizza Award.

     

  • WILSONVILLE: Ben Tabb, senior in fine arts, full tuition Helen E. Plinkiewisch Art Scholarship in memory of Plinkiewisch who graduated from OSU in 1929.
