CORVALLIS - Albany honor music student Dow Yeh will perform "Sonic Meditations: The Music of Pauline Oliveros" on Friday, March 31, at the Oregon State University Women's Center in Benton Annex. The hour-long concert, which begins at 2 p.m., is free and open to the public.

Yeh, an OSU senior, has performed at university honor recitals. The Albany biology and music major counts piano and drawing among favorite hobbies, and classical and jazz as favorites types of music. Yeh's repertoire has included "Funerailles" by Liszt and "L'Isle Joyeuse" by Debussy.

Yeh's March 31 concert highlights Oliveros' music, which is filled with improvisation, meditation, electronic music, myth and ritual, and has been hailed as the foundation of current meditative music. Oliveros' work "Bye Bye Butterfly" earned wide praise in the 1960s, and in the 1970's she represented the U.S. at the World's Fair in Osaka, Japan.

During the 1980's Oliveros was honored with a retrospective at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington D.C. Last year, she received the SEAMUS99 Award for Lifetime Achievement. SEAMUS is the acronym for the Society for Electro-Acoustic Music in the United States, and recipients are recognized for quality and artistic production.
