CORVALLIS - Jeffrey J. McDonnell, an expert in forest hydrology, has been awarded the second of three Richardson Family Endowed Professorships in the College of Forestry at Oregon State University. The professorship is supported by the Ward K. Richardson Family endowment, established from a 1992 bequest of forest land to OSU.

McDonnell will become a professor in the Department of Forest Engineering, where he will continue his teaching and research on watershed science, hill slope processes, and hydrological modeling. He most recently was a professor of water resources at the State University of New York, College of Environmental Science and Forestry, in Syracuse.

McDonnell received his doctorate from the University of Canterbury in New Zealand. He has received numerous career awards and honors, produced many professional publications, and been active nationally and internationally on both public and professional advisory committees with such organizations as NASA, U.S. Geological Survey, UNESCO and the American Geophysical Union.

His research has covered such topics as watershed runoff processes, transport of pollutants, landslide generation, and public water supplies.
