CORVALLIS, Ore. - Stephen Roath, president and chief executive officer of Longs Drug Store based in Walnut Creek, Calif., has earned the 2000-2001 Alumnus of the Year Award from the College of Pharmacy at Oregon State University.

Roath, a member of the OSU College of Pharmacy Class of 1963, has spent more than 35 years in the drug store industry. After graduating from OSU, Roath began his career with Longs in 1964 at the Concord, Calif. store. He held a variety of positions, incl uding pharmacist, pharmacy manager and store manager before moving to the corporate offices as vice president of pharmacy.

In 1991, he was appointed president of the chain and in January, 2000, he assumed the post of chief executive officer. He also serves on the board of directors of the National Association of Chain Drug Stores.

The OSU College of Pharmacy was originally established as the Department of Pharmacy at Oregon State College in 1898. In 1983, it became the College of Pharmacy at OSU. The college offers doctorates in pharmacy and graduates are eligible for licensure as pharmacists throughout the United States.
