BEND - Oregon State University is offering Central Oregon residents two new professional certificate programs in web design to help meet the increasing demand for people skilled in using the Internet in business, their careers, interactive learning or just for personal growth.

The programs will operate from November, 2000, to January, 2001. More information about their contents, registration and fees can be obtained by contacting the OSU Central Oregon office at 541-312-8361, or the Office of Distance and Continuing Education web site.

One group of six courses will address web design fundamentals, and a second program composed of five courses will explore advanced interactive web design. Each 12-hour course will take place on the Central Oregon Community College campus. They are available as evening or all-day classes. Students can earn a professional certificate by taking all of the courses in a series, or select individual courses that meet their specific needs.

The programs will address such topics as Internet tools, how to design and maintain a web site, building a business on the web, graphic design principles and advanced web programming languages. An OSU faculty member in computer science, Michael Curry, will teach the courses. He has 18 years of experience working with information systems and computer networks in a variety of organizations, including Xerox, Tektronix and the U.S. Army.
