CORVALLIS - Christine Armer, a doctoral student in Oregon State University's Department of Entomology, received a John Henry Comstock Graduate Student Award from the Entomological Society of America at the society's meeting in San Diego.

Each year the awards go to five graduate students, one from each of the society's five geographic regions. Armer was selected from universities in the Pacific branch. Recipients received an all-expenses-paid trip to the Dec. 9-12 meeting to receive their awards.

For her doctoral thesis, Armer is studying the biological, or natural, control of the Colorado potato beetle, a serious potato pest. In addition, she teaches an OSU undergraduate course on insect pest management and has received very high ratings for her teaching from students.

Armer's major professors are OSU entomology professors Ralph Berry and Sujaya Rao. She is from Orinda, Calif.
