CORVALLIS - An Oregon State University student from Beaverton has earned national recognition for community service and scholastic success.

Brandon Wentworth, an OSU senior in business management and psychology, has received the National Order of Omega Scholarship and Leadership Award. The Miami-based organization recognizes top students who have attained a high standard of leadership in fraternity and community activities.

"Brandon Wentworth represents the highest standards of interfraternalism leadership and performance," said Bob Kerr, OSU Greek life coordinator. "His character, integrity and leadership is a beacon for all collegiate fraternity members to aspire to and emulate. I have been involved in the fraternal movement for 30 years and Mr. Wentworth is clearly in the top 1 percent of all the students I have worked with and we at Oregon State University can be proud of his achievements."

Wentworth, a 1997 graduate of Aloha High School, has served as president of OSU's Interfraternity Council, as well as president of the OSU chapter of the Kappa Sigma fraternity. He also held the post of president in the campus chapter of the Order of Omega and served on the Alumni Board of Kappa Sigma, the Department of Psychology tenure and promotion committee and as a founding member of the campus President's Council.

Scholastically, he has been on the OSU's Dean's List for seven terms, earned several Kappa Sigma scholarships and an Al Reser Outstanding Student Leadership Scholarship.

His community service includes work as an American Heart Association volunteer, service on the Corvallis Boys and Girls Club Christmas Drive and efforts as a community policing volunteer.

He has also raised more than $3,000 for charity through Kappa Sigma philanthropy projects and an additional $1,300 as an individual participant in the OSU Dance Marathon 2000.

Wentworth will graduate this spring and then plans to attend law school.

"Eventually, I would like to get into politics here in Oregon," Wentworth said. "Nothing big, just at the local level, such as the city council.
