CORVALLIS - Chicago-based feminist journalist and playwright Paula Kamen will speak at Oregon State University on Thursday, March 1.

Kamen's two-hour presentation, "Her Way: Monica, Madonna, Felicity and a New Generation's Sexual Attitudes," starts at 7 p.m. in OSU's LaSells Stewart Center at Western Boulevard and 26th Street. The event, which is co-sponsored by the campus Women's Center and Women Studies program is free and open to the public. For information, contact the Women's Center at 541-737-3186.

Kamen will lecture about changing sexual attitudes and pop culture as explored in her new book "Her Way: Young Women Remake the Sexual Revolution."

Kamen is also the author of "Feminist Fatale: Voices from the 'Twentysomething' Generation Explore the Future of the 'Women's Movement.'" Her writing on feminism and young women has appeared in The New York Times, Washington Post, Ms., and the Chicago Tribune.

"Her Way" is based on more than a hundred unfiltered in-depth interviews with women from across the country. The book reports the story of a generation's sexual expectations and choices.

Her theater work includes the play "Jane: Abortion and the Underground," which premiered in Chicago in 1999. Her drama, "A Cure for AIDS," was a finalist in Chicago Dramatists' 1999 "Ten-Minute Play Competition."

Kamen has spoken at more than 60 universities, including the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Chicago. She holds a bachelor's degree in journalism and is a 1989 graduate of the University of Illinois. She has been a visiting research scholar with Illinois' Northwestern University's gender studies program since 1994.
