CORVALLIS - Oregon State University has selected a national leader in education about wildlife to chair its Department of Fisheries and Wildlife. Dan Edge, the Mace professor of Watchable Wildlife at OSU and a member of the governing council of The Wildlife Society - a 10,000-member professional organization - replaces Erik Fritzell, who is now an associate dean of OSU's College of Agricultural Sciences.

Edge has undergraduate and master's degrees in wildlife biology from the University of Montana and a Ph.D. in forestry, also from Montana. He joined the OSU faculty in 1989.

He pioneered satellite education courses offered by the OSU Department of Fisheries and Wildlife and has won national awards for distance education, educational videos and teaching.

In his teaching, research and extension work Edge has explored agricultural and forestry issues related to wildlife.
