CORVALLIS - Arlene Skolnick, a nationally recognized expert on family studies from the University of California at Berkeley, will give a free public lecture at Oregon State University on Saturday, March 10.

Her lecture, "Love, Work and the Paradoxes of American 'Family Values,'" will begin at 3:30 p.m. in Milam Auditorium. A reception featuring Skolnick and OSU's Kinsey B. Green will follow the lecture. Green, dean of the College of Home Economics and Education, is retiring from the university this year.

Skolnick is a faculty member at the University of California's Institute of Human Development. Her research has focused on the marriages of a group of people affiliated with the Berkeley Longitudinal Studies project.

Her most recent study has investigated the impact of job stress on the families of police officers.

She is spending the year as a visiting professor in the Department of Sociology at New York University, and is consulting the Families and Work Institute.

A noted author, Skolnick has written several books, including "Family in Transition," "Rethinking Childhood," "Embattled Paradise" and "All Our Families." She will sign copies of her books during the reception.

The lecture is sponsored by the Nancy Chandler Lectureship in the OSU College of Home Economics and Education.
