CORVALLIS - Carl Schreck, a professor of fisheries and wildlife at Oregon State University, has received the Excellence in Fisheries Education Award from the American Fisheries Society.

Schreck, who is the leader of the Oregon Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit at OSU, was cited for his "pioneering work in developing and teaching methods to understand the basic biology of fishes."

The long-time OSU faculty member also was cited for his leadership and inspiration to students. Schreck has served as major professor for 43 master's and doctoral students.

He is one of the leading researchers in the study of migrating salmon. Much of Schreck's recent research has focused on the life and habitat of juvenile salmon and returning adult salmon in the Columbia and Willamette rivers.
