CORVALLIS - Twelve members of the Oregon State University College of Business faculty and staff were honored recently by the college's Business Advisory Council.

Assistant professor Ping Hsieh earned the Byron L. Newton Award for Excellence in Teaching. The award recognizes superior classroom performance and effectiveness. Hsieh focuses on application of statistical techniques for financial and economic data analysis.

Professor Ron Miller earned the Corvallis Gazette-Times Faculty Leadership Award, which recognizes leadership activities affecting the larger community. Miller, who serves on the Corvallis school board, is a specialist in union-management relations, collective bargaining and industrial relations.

The Exemplary Service Award to an outstanding administrator was given to Diane Denning, who specializes in academic advising for business students. The honor recognizes excellence in performance of administrative duties.

Six educators earned the Business Advisory Council Award for College and University Service: associate professor Ray Brooks, assistant professor Craig Tyran, associate professor Hal Koenig, assistant professor Jon Down, associate professor Chandra Mishra, and assistant professor Key-Suk Kim. The award, presented this year to all members of the Masters in Business Administration Task Force, is given for a significant record of excellence in service, which reflects a sustained involvement in the life of the department, college and university.

Assistant professor Key-Suk Kim received the Excellence in Scholarship Award. The honor recognizes a significant record of excellence in research demonstrated not only by quantity of output, but also by focused, quality research. Kim's expertise is in marketing and channels of distribution.

Associate professor Mary Alice Seville and instructor Tom Dowling earned the Dean's Award for Exemplary Achievement, which recognizes long-time, noteworthy achievement of faculty. Dowling specializes in strategic management, entrepreneurship and organizational behavior, while Seville specializes in accounting and financial reporting for governments and non-profit corporations.
